Remembering the Spirit of Sumpah Pemuda through a Diversity Seminar with Roemah Bhinneka Surabaya

To commemorate the historic event that took place in 1928, the Indonesian people celebrate "Sumpah Pemuda" Day on October 28 every year. This event is known as "Sumpah Pemuda”. Sumpah Pemuda is an important milestone in Indonesia's struggle for independence. A youth pledge known as Sumpah Pemuda was made in Jakarta on October 28, 1928. The Second Youth Congress, organized by the Association of Indonesian Youth Associations, brought together young people from all around the country at that time. On this occasion, they vowed to unite in one nation, one language and one homeland, creating a strong spirit of nationalism and unbreakable unity.

Gloria Christian High School 2 hosted a diversity seminar with the theme "One Nation in Diversity" as part of this year's Youth Pledge Day celebration. Classes X and XII IPS participated in this seminar which was held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. The seminar on Thursday, October 26, 2023 was held for classes XI and XII MIPA. The series of Youth Pledge Seminars began with singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya, a drama performance from the extracurricular theater The Act, a presentation of material about the values of Sumpah Pemuda regarding tolerance and diversity, questions and answers for participants to chat, interact and share experiences and a final "PANCASILA" shout. This seminar is an important forum for understanding, respecting and celebrating the spirit of diversity of the Indonesian people.

This project aims to increase awareness and understanding of social, cultural and religious diversity in society. This seminar will involve various presenters representing diverse groups in society, such as ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation and social background. Seminars will include discussions, presentations, and interactive activities to promote tolerance, inclusivity, and friendship across groups. Through this seminar, the values of history, nationalism and unity are maintained and passed on to the younger generation, ensuring that the spirit of Sumpah Pemuda will remain alive in Indonesian society. With continued enthusiasm, the Indonesian people can continue to develop and become stronger in facing future challenges.
