Gloria Christian Elementary School Invites Students to Learn How to Make Jumputan Batik

“Exciting,” is repeatedly mentioned by Gloria Christian Elementary students when making batik. Students are very enthusiastic to follow the instructions in making batik jumputan. Starting from folding, tying, coloring, determining motifs, folding models, to which parts are filled with stuffing and then tying,"  said Ms. Boedi Handajani, PIC of SD Kristen Gloria 3 Public Relations. The making of batik was Boys’ Birgade activity that was held last March and attended by 144 grade 5 students. It was accompanied and directed by BB Officer, junior BB of SD Kristen Gloria 3.

This activity is one of the activities that is held by Gloria Christian Elementary School to introduce various cultures of their own country. The jumputan motif batik itself was chosen because it was not widely known. By making it directly, students are expected to know and appreciate the work of their own nation.  "The school hopes that this activity can preserve the country's cultural diversity. In addition, we want to equip students with the skills to make a craft or work," said Ms. Boedi.

After drying at room temperature overnight, the next day the folds are opened to see the finished product. Jumputan batik made by students has been made with very interesting motifs. The result is a tablecloth with jumputan motifs ready to be used.
